About Golden Hazel Pups
What sets us apart?
We love raising puppies! They bring joy to our home and we genuinely love to see families bringing a new puppy into their lives.
We do not breed often, our dogs are our pets, not producers. We love and cherish our time with Huck and Hazel and we do not want Hazel missing out on the fun because she is pregnant or nursing. Rather then mass producing puppies, we want to share the “golden experience” with other families. We want other people to have a Huck and Hazel of their very own.
The puppies are born and raise in our home, they are introduced early to various stimuli to help them become calm, well socialized dogs. We work with the litter AND each puppy individually to help them learn behaviors that will make them great pets. We use positive reinforcement training to enhance their brain development and solidify their bond with people.
A Word on Potty Training
The litter is put on a schedule of: eat, outside time, then inside time. This means that most puppies are well on their way to potty training before they leave. The 1st step to potty training is learning the difference between inside and out. They also learn this behavior by having access to outside and by watching their mother. Their mother is their 1st teacher, and what better dog to learn from the Hazel?
Our Thoughts on Crate Training
Crate Training can be very helpful for dogs and their families. However, we strongly believe that introduction to crate training too early can be detrimental. Keeping the puppy with their litter mates and their mother till 8 weeks is vital to healthy development. Placing a puppy in a crate too early can be unnecessarily stressful and traumatic for the pup.
We do introduce the litter to crates from the beginning. They have an OPEN crate in their sleeping area, as well as one in their outside play area. This means that the puppies can play in the crate, become comfortable with it, and sleep in it if they choose to. We will not put a puppy in a locked crate!
